Mirror Images is the flexible slot: Portal Entre for squad mobility, Well of Precognition or Mantra of Concentration for aegis and stability, Well of Action for might and superspeed, Feedback for reflects, Well of Senility or Mantra of Distraction for more defiance damage. If you drop it, press Signet of Domination before Signet of Midnight. Signet of Humility can become Time Warp when the squad needs quickness more than defiance damage, or Gravity Well for area defiance damage.

Rotation

Everything you do makes clones, and every clone is a shatter waiting to happen. Staff and scepter attacks apply torment; Phantasmal Warlock and Phantasmal Duelist summon phantasms that strike several times, bleed on every critical hit, and come back once more thanks to Chronophantasma. Shatters turn three clones into torment (Maim the Disillusioned), confusion (Rewinder) and strikes (Split Second), then Illusionary Reversion hands you a clone back. Continuum Split is the special move: it freezes your cooldowns for up to six seconds, so whatever you cast inside the rift, you cast again right after it closes. Alacrity in a raid squad is worth more to a Chronomancer than to anyone else, because Time Marches On makes it cut every cooldown by a third.

Before the pull

Start on Scepter & Pistol. The phantasm takes a moment to reach the target, so cast it just before the timer hits zero.

Opener: the Continuum Split burst

This is the sequence from Snow Crows' benchmark log. Continuum Split freezes your cooldowns; everything cast inside the rift is cast again after Continuum Shift. The rift only lasts 3 seconds with one clone, so it is dense.

Key concepts

Clones, phantasms, shatters

A clone is a copy of you that autoattacks weakly and exists to be shattered; you hold at most three. A phantasm is a real attacker summoned by a weapon skill that strikes a few times and then turns into a clone. Shatters (the F keys) destroy every clone and do something per clone destroyed. The build's job is to keep three clones available for Rewinder while the phantasms do the hitting.

Why torment and confusion

Torment does 0.09 × Condition Damage + 31.8 per stack per second against a target that is not moving, more than any other condition except burning, and raid bosses mostly stand still. Confusion's passive tick is smaller, but every time the target activates a skill it also takes 0.0325 × Condition Damage + 16 per stack. The golem never activates skills, so the 46,309 benchmark is a floor for confusion; against real bosses the build does more.

Continuum Split, in one sentence

You shatter your clones to open a rift that lasts 3, 4.5 or 6 seconds for one, two or three clones; when it ends, or when you press Continuum Shift, your health, endurance and cooldowns return to what they were when you opened it. Anything you cast inside is therefore free to cast again. The log shows its two casts 68.75 seconds apart: 105 seconds divided by 1.5 for alacrity.

Alacrity is bigger for you

Alacrity normally recharges skills 25% faster. The Chronomancer minor Time Marches On raises that to 50%, so with permanent alacrity every cooldown on this page is two thirds of its listed value: Warlock 8 seconds, Confusing Images 6, weapon swap 6.7. The loops above are built for a squad that provides alacrity; without it the rotation stretches.

Four Warlock volleys per pair

Phantasmal Warlock summons two phantasms, each striking three times for two torment per attack. Chronophantasma makes each phantasm attack a second time at 105% damage before it becomes a clone, and Signet of the Ether's active recharges the skill at once. Warlock, signet, Warlock is therefore eight phantasm attacks, and the opener does it twice through Continuum Split.

The bleeding is a minor trait

Sharper Images gives every illusion 5 seconds of bleeding on each critical hit. Phantasms crit at your 35% plus 25% from Phantasmal Fury plus 15% from Flow of Time, on 12 Warlock strikes and 16 Duelist bullets per cast. In the benchmark log bleeding was 18.7% of all damage, nearly all of it from this trait.

Duration, right at the cap

Condition Duration from expertise and the rune is 74.87%. Sigil of Demons adds 20% to torment (94.87%) and Malicious Sorcery adds 25% to confusion (99.87%). Bonuses stack additively with Condition Duration up to a 100% cap, so Malicious Sorcery is chosen because it lands confusion exactly under the cap; more expertise would be wasted on it.

Relic of Akeem

Whenever you disable a target that already has five or more stacks of confusion or torment, enemies around it take 2 confusion and 2 torment for 10 seconds, once every 10 seconds. Time Sink's daze, Magic Bullet's stun, Chaos Storm's first strike and Signet of Domination's stun are all disables. On this build the target is never below five stacks.

Blind means confusion

Ineptitude turns every blind you apply into 2 stacks of confusion for 5 seconds (once per 3 seconds on a defiant target). Rewinder blinds through Blinding Dissipation, and Counterspell, Magic Bullet, Chaos Armor and Signet of Midnight blind on their own. That is why the Dueling line is here at all.

What each skill is worth

Expected damage of one cast against the heavy raid golem (armor 2597) with 25 might and fury: strike = weapon strength × power × coefficient ÷ armor, crits at 150% with 75.1% chance; conditions = stacks × duration × tick, with 74.87% duration plus any per-condition bonus. Permanent modifiers are included: Compounding Power at five stacks (4.9 average in the benchmark log), Flow of Time with alacrity, and the golem's 25 vulnerability. Time Catches Up, the relic and Ineptitude's 3-second interval are not, so these are floor values. Confusion is counted as its passive tick only, because the golem never activates skills; against a boss that does, every stack also hits for 0.0325 × Condition Damage + 16 each activation.

Simulator

A discrete-event simulator plays the build against the golem with the wiki's PvE skill facts. First it replays the exact cast sequence from Snow Crows' log and compares its damage with what the log recorded, condition by condition. That is the test of the model. Then it replays the same casts with different gear, so the gear question is answered with the actions held fixed.

Read the swap table as the price of each alternative, not as a recommendation: a negative number is how much the benchmark would lose. Duration bonuses stack additively with Condition Duration up to a 100% cap, which is why rune and sigil swaps that push a condition past the cap buy nothing. Sigil procs on critical hits use the simulator's crit chance and their listed cooldowns. Traits and the rotation are not searched yet; that needs the scripted rotation to match the log more closely than it does.

Difficulty: Advanced

  • Resources tracked4

Clone count (shatter at three), Split Second's two charges, the Continuum Split window, and Signet of the Ether's phantasm reset.

  • Distinct skills per loop16

Ten weapon skills across two sets, four shatters, Continuum Split and the two signets you press for damage.

  • Timing windowsTight inside the rift

Continuum Split lasts 3 to 6 seconds depending on clones shattered; two Warlocks, the heal signet and every shatter have to fit. Outside it the loops are relaxed.

  • ForgivenessGood

Shatters are instant and never interrupt a cast, so a late press costs little. Snow Crows rates it 3 of 5: easy to learn, high mastery curve.
